Wave Reading Response Question

Hi There,

I guess I am the first person to post a discussion question for Wave? Yeah. So, as not much has happened so far in the book, I expect that this discussion will be kind of short... Anyways, here it is.

"What do you think Eric Walters wants the readers to learn when Sam, the Mother, and the Father go on the elephant ride up to the Temple with the Buddha? Please explain your thinking using examples from the text, or a personal experience."

My response to the question is "I think Eric Walters wants the readers to learn that if you were willing to think about things enough, you may be able to find out what you never knew you could learn. For example, when Sam looks at the statue of the Buddha and thinks about what the Buddha looks like he had discovered, he compares it's face to the Mona Lisa and makes a connection with their calm facial expression.

Well, Farewinds! -Bree-

  1. Hi Bree,

This is an interesting question to start off with. I think it will require your group members to think deeply, even though, as you've written, not much has happened yet.

I look forward to reading your group's discussion!

  2. I think maybe hes trying to get them to open there mind to the concept of Buddha and meditation because it focuses a lot Buddha and how hes willing to answer a question for you but he couldn't think of anything to ask i thought it was really cool how he compared Buddha and Mona Lisa i never thought of it that way there both so different i definitely think that part of the book was meant for you to come to peace with something maybe with yourself it was definitely a good part even tho it wasn't very exciting so ya i think it was meant for the reader to really think hard and come to peace with something in there life but i could be completely wrong and totally be missing the point - connor ;)

  3. I think he's trying to show to his readers that sam is open to a new religion that's diffrent to him, I think its sorta odd that he made a connection to buhda and Mona Lisa but at the same time it would probably remind me off that to because of the smile the buhda had and the smile Mona Lisa had. Also he Eric Walters is trying to show the diffrent religion's in thailand and there culture and there diffrnet belives.

  4. Hello Wave readers,

I hope you are enjoying reading section 2 of your book, as I'm sure there will be LOTS of action in your story very soon.

    Some quick comments:

#1. You have some great ideas here and I like the connections to big ideas in this text that you are making. Don't doubt your own perspectives! If you can support your point of view, you have a great answer in the making.
#2. Remember that you need to make your comments easy to read. Please ensure that you read over your comments before posting. There are some super long sentences here that make your excellent points a little hard to understand. If you have difficulty with this, type your comments in a word processor first, spell check them and then copy and paste them to the comment section.

  5. I think that eric walters wants us to think about our past and our future because if you dont know your past you dont have a future.
I also think he is trying to saywait for what you want because in the book sam says " With Buddha, it was like ,if you politly asked and listened, he'd share that wisdom with you."
Sorry my answer wasnt that good I just didn't know how to answer that question.

  6. I think Eric Walter just wanted to know about the importance of Buddha in Thailand.Buddha spread peace in the world.he also made rights for the people to accept his ideas about peace.he made people do meditate which spread love and kindness.he always wanted people not to run away from the trouble but struggle it to win and see other good opportunities in life which can help you to make your goal.Help people but not for your purpose but to make you and yourself accepted by them. I think Eric Walter's just wanted to have a little knowledge about Buddha and we can also find some of his sayings that worked out while the stories begins from the wave.

  7. I think that Eric Walters is trying to teach us that we should be polite and be peacefull and not fight just wait for what you want because its better that way.
I also think that he is try to teach us to open up to new things.

  8. I kinda agree with everyone because he could be teaching us to open up to new things and he could be teaching us about buddhaand to fallow buddhas example.

  9. I agree with iksha ... I think that Eric Walter's is trying to teach us about the importance because know one really realizes how much the Buddha make things more peaceful. Also because it introduced a new place so I think that he wanted to have a character that knows all about the place and so it can teach us about how the place is important or useful to Sam and his family, and/or us. like the information he gives out could be trying to teach us about so if we ever have a chance to go to a place with Buddhas, we will know all about it. But in a way I agree with all of you because there's different things that you each said and I thought "Oh yes I agree" and when I was reading over everything I thought I should mention that i do agree with all. =)

May not be good and confusing but Its the thoughts that were going threw my head when I read the question!
